Description
Every teacher and tutor knows that practicing any skill with a positive attitude will result in progress. Progress will eventually end up in mastery. The better the attitude, the faster the progress.
Every parent knows that when their child does NOT want to do something that at home they will express their true feelings and dig their heels in and fight changing their attitude.
When this happens with a skill that they are needing help on, parents please provide a high motivating reward for daily practice.
Because kids love visuals and it can pump up the endorphins, I use high interest items like legos, video games, toys, trips to favorite stores that are on their wish list, but the kids know they aren’t going to get them.
Please find an editable reward chart that you can easily replace the legos with something that interests your child. Go over the rules. They have to practice this particular skill every day for 30 days with a good attitude.
At the end of 30 days, you will find:
1) The habit of “hating this task” is over because it is a routine.
2) The child will be progressing and will see the power of practice.
3) The teacher will be noticing and praising the child at school too.
4) The child may even self initiate practice because they do not feel shame and are proud of their accomplishments.
Make it an age appropriate/common classroom goal where the impact is seen in the child’s classroom.
